Umbria, Italy School Trip
[[{“value”:”
Ciao, amici, tutto bene? Sike, I know you guys won’t be able to answer that!
Recently, I visited Umbria with my IES Abroad program. I was skeptical about going on this trip, but I am very grateful that I went because I made a new friend, David.
While we were traveling to Umbria, I recognized David from his Instagram post at a Milan church that I had been wanting to visit, and I initiated a conversation with him. We reflected on the challenges of living out our faith in our current environment. It made us both so grateful that we crossed paths; it’s been a blessing to have each other for accountability, encouragement, and fellowship.
Later during the trip, we had the best time on our bus ride toward the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi. Here are some pictures!!!
The Blessed Grass
As we were riding in the bus, everyone was talking about how much nicer Umbria is than Milan. I noticed the clouds were casting huge shadows over the fields, except for one patch of grass that was illuminated by the sun.
I started pointing, joking, “Yo, the grass truly is greener on this side,” and “Bro, God’s favor is on that grass.” It probably doesn’t sound as hilarious now, but we were dying in the back of the bus.
The Chocolate Champion
Next, we arrived at the Baci’s chocolate factory, and learned how to make chocolate from their chef. I did so well making chocolate that I won an award!

Sike. The whole class got a certificate for participating…

But I promise you, I was one of the first ones called, and I thought I won because I made the best chocolate.
Roome With a View
During our stay, I probably had the best view I’ve ever seen in my life. We were in a 5-star hotel perched on a mountain, and I’m convinced that my view was the best of the whole group. Here is a picture!

We ended this trip with some lasagna and a long commute back home. This trip was so much better than I ever anticipated.

Here’s a picture of me on the side of the Basilica!
Ciao ciao, ragazzi, thanks for reading this all the way to the end!
