Top Engineering Internships

[[{“value”:”

In this third blog post in our series (also check out Top Science Internships and Top Technology Internships), we will take a look at the top engineering internships in the USA. These programs are ideal for students who want to work in engineering fields such as civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering:

1. NASA Internships
NASA has a handful of internships available to students in high school all the way through graduate school who are taking part in “full-time accredited programs appropriate to the NASA Internships”. Eligible applicants are U.S. citizens majoring in any majors related to business, science or engineering. Interns will take part in scientific or engineering research as well as help out with development and operations activities. If you aren’t technologically inclined, there are also some business- and administrative-related internships as well. There’s something for everyone!

2. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Undergraduate Scholarship & Internship Program
The CIA has a program for soon-to-be college freshmen. The internships entail interns working summers full-time at the CIA in Washington, D.C., doing work that relates to their field of study. Work ranges from working on computer systems to studying budgets to document translation. In addition to this great experience, students will receive tuition assistance, a salary for their work, insurance, paid leave and federal retirement plans. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for all STEM students!

3. US Naval Research Laboratory Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program
This apprenticeship program (SEAP) is a summer internship hosted by the United States Naval Research Laboratory. The program involves interns working full-time for eight weeks on various tasks related to science, technology, and engineering with the guidance of Naval Research Laboratory scientists and engineers. Interns will attend seminars and, at the end of the program, will write a research paper as well as give a presentation. Work for a laboratory so important to our nation!

4. Pathways Internship Program
Along with their SEAP program mentioned above, the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory also has the Pathways Internship Program, which seeks to help high school, college, and graduate students experience Federal jobs while also getting paid for their work. According to their website, many interns are then hired for full time positions after finishing the Pathways program. A wide range of engineering fields are covered in this internship. A great option for anyone interested in working for the Federal government.

5. Internships.com
Internships.com has a comprehensive collection of engineering internships, conveniently organized by city. Whether looking to stay in your hometown or considering a cross-country move, check out the available engineering internship opportunities nearby! Not only do these programs give students an awesome head start for college or the workforce, but can also provide extra money for the interns!
