Showcasing career opportunities for National Careers Week

At Futurum, we are passionate about opening students’ eyes to the huge range of exciting careers available. Whether you are interested in physics or photography, computers or culture, sports or space, history or health, the researchers and professionals we work with will show how your interests and hobbies can lead to a rewarding and fulfilling career.

While all our educational articles contain information about careers in the field, to celebrate National Careers Week (3rd – 8th March 2025), we have collated some of our specific careers-focused resources:

Aviation: Members of Cranfield University’s Centre for Air Transport Management and the National Flying Laboratory Centre explain what their roles in the aviation industry involve, and how you can follow in their footsteps. From pilots and engineers to safety officers and fleet managers, the aviation industry needs people to build and fly planes, develop green technologies, and keep air transport moving safely and efficiently.Dentistry: Researchers and practitioners in the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research highlight the huge range of opportunities available in the world of dentistry. From paediatric dentists who look after children’s teeth and cariologists who study how and why people develop cavities, to geneticists who investigate the causes of mouth abnormalities and immunologists who study oral diseases, keeping our teeth and mouths healthy requires a wide range of knowledge and expertise.

RNA biology: RNA modifications can have profound implications for human health and disease, biotechnological innovations and agricultural productivity. Scientists from different disciplines, including molecular biology, chemical engineering, bioinformatics and ethics, are investigating how we can take advantage of RNA modifications to improve health, technology and agriculture.

Nursing and primary care nursing: Nursing is a rewarding and fulfilling career in which you can improve the lives of others. Many countries are currently experiencing nursing shortages, so it is now more important than ever to encourage young people to consider pursuing a career in nursing.

Healthcare: There is so much more to ‘working in healthcare’ than being a doctor or nurse in a hospital. A huge variety of different professionals are needed to keep our healthcare systems functioning. In this article, we spoke to a radiologist, a psychiatrist and an epidemiologist about what their role in healthcare involves.

Green careers: As the climate and biodiversity crises intensify, careers that involve understanding and protecting the Earth are becoming increasingly important. To celebrate Green Careers Week, we spoke to a renewable engineer about his role managing a wind farm.

STEM: The demand for people working in STEM is constantly increasing. From developing new software to manufacturing new products, STEM professionals work in a variety of industries to find innovative solutions for society’s problems. In this article, we took a look at the highest paid STEM careers.
