Connections while Abroad
[[{“value”:”
You’re probably wondering who the people are I have connected with while in Athens. If I’m being honest, this was something I was worried about. During my first week, I spent a lot of time at home and didn’t really talk to people. As the only student staying with my host family, sometimes I felt lonely. I took so many naps, and I would often call back home to talk with my parents.
However, I started to meet people while on the field study trips – that’s how I met Whitney! Even though my homestay is a bit farther away, classmates reached out to tell me about outings, which always made me feel included. Whenever I declined, my friend Kimberly made sure I knew I was invited! During those first couple of weeks here, it meant the world to me. I felt I wasn’t alone anymore and that I had people I could reach out to.

Rome Trip
OHH, I loved our fall break trip to Rome!! It was so fun, and I had such a good time. There are definitely funny stories from our time there, like us getting stuck in the elevator. It was scary, but I was not alone. Don’t worry – our friend Anthony came to our rescue!

This little incident didn’t hold us back; we enjoyed the adventure by walking around and exploring the city. Check out the Trevi Fountain!! I was in awe getting to see this in person. So, of course, I took many pictures.

Moral of the Story
To end this off, do not be afraid to reach out to people and put yourself out there. Say YES to those invitations and hangouts. Those are the memories that you will hold on to and will remember. Don’t be afraid to join a conversation or even start one yourself. I felt alone the first week here, but then I found a wonderful group of friends. It’s so amazing how we can joke around with each other and be serious at the same time. We’ve gotten so close. Now we all sit together for lunch and study together at kekkos (our cafe).
