Small things I love about Seoul, South Korea
[[{“value”:”
Living in another country makes you notice when things are different from what you’re used to and the cultural norms change. While living in South Korea, I have come across a lot of unique things I wish we had and used in the United States. Here is my non-comprehensive list of small things I have noticed and really appreciated.

Heated/cooling bus stop benches -At bus stops in Seoul, they have special benches that are heated in the winter and cooled in the summer. This makes waiting for the bus much more bearable in extreme cold and heat.

To-go bags for your drink – One thing I wish they brought to the U.S. on a larger scale is the small plastic bag for carrying a drink. I’m not talking about drink carriers like the ones we have in the U.S. These look like little plastic bags that hold your drink perfectly upright, so that your hands are more free! They are so convenient when you’re shopping or when bringing a drink to a class.

Umbrella dryer – These are typically near the entrance way of buildings. You simply wipe your umbrella through them to remove excess water before going inside. Some places will also provide plastic bags to put your umbrella in to make sure it’s not dripping everywhere.
Changing room cloth – In some stores, they provide a very sheer cotton-like square to put over your face before trying on a top. You can think of it almost like a see-through handkerchief, but it is to make sure your makeup doesn’t get smudged on the top. It’s also a very considerate idea or gesture because it saves you from the awkward moment when you stain a shirt you were not planning on buying, but someone has to go put back. Crisis averted!
I think all of these small tweaks are very useful and make daily life in a city even more convenient.
