Behind every initiative, every innovation, and every solution to a challenge, there are individuals who quietly and consistently make it all possible.

They are the change-makers, those who persevere, drive the work forward, and empower others along the way. Their impact is not always measured in headlines, but in people: in the educators they inspire, the classrooms they transform, and the students whose futures expand because of their influence.

At the 2026 Ohio STEM Innovation Summit, we had the privilege of honoring one of those individuals.

Making the complex feel possible

Imagine walking into a learning space where something that once felt complex or even intimidating suddenly feels within reach. Where computer science is no longer abstract or overwhelming, but hands-on, accessible, and even fun.

Sometimes, all it takes is a piece of chalk, an open space, and someone who knows how to meet you exactly where you are.

That is the kind of educator and leader Renee Coley is.

As this year’s OSLN Outstanding Service Award recipient, Renee has dedicated her career to helping others step confidently into new learning experiences. She has a unique ability to break down complexity, bring clarity to unfamiliar concepts, and create an environment where educators and students alike feel capable, supported, and inspired.

What truly defines Renee’s career is her willingness to follow curiosity, both her own and that of her students.

A career shaped by curiosity and commitment

Renee’s journey in education spans more than 35 years. She began her career in English Language Arts and social studies, building strong foundations in literacy, critical thinking, and student engagement.

When her students showed an interest in computer science, Renee did not shy away from the unfamiliar. Instead, she leaned in. That decision led her to expand her expertise, participate in national curriculum pilots with Code.org, and become a champion for computer science education across Ohio.

Through professional learning, facilitation, and advocacy, Renee has helped countless educators take their first steps into computer science instruction, often transforming hesitation into confidence.

Inspiring both heart and mind

If you have learned from Renee, you have felt her impact.

Some educators leave you inspired. Others leave you with knowledge. The best do both.

Renee does exactly that.

She brings expertise, humor, and a steady presence that helps people move forward with confidence. She meets educators where they are and helps them take the next step.

A well-deserved recognition

The OSLN Outstanding Service Award honors individuals who advance STEM education across Ohio.
Renee Coley represents that mission fully.

Her work has strengthened educators, expanded opportunities for students, and built lasting impact across the state. Even more, she has done it in a way that uplifts others and ensures her influence continues to grow.

We are proud to recognize Renee Coley as the 2026 OSLN Outstanding Service Award winner.
