Trick-or-Treat Learning: Halloween Activities That Elementary Students Love
[[{“value”:”
Halloween activities are a lot of fun in the classroom. Even better, I have ideas that are already created just for you!
Years ago, our favorite Halloween activity was a BINGO game I made using pumpkin cut-outs. I made 25 large pumpkins using cardstock and then wrote Halloween vocabulary words on each one. Some words were repeated and some were not. Each pumpkin had the same number of words. I wrote all those words with a sharpie!
Just guess how long that took….a long time. The good part is that we used that little BINGO set for years.
To save you the hours of time creating fun Halloween activities, let’s look at some that are already made!
Let’s Start with the Easiest Prep for Halloween Activities
This mini escape is perfect! It’s fun, uses academic skills, and requires problem-solving.
Students read a short story about a visit to a haunted house. As they work through the ‘rooms’ of the house they find rhyming clues to solve.
The goal is to collect 4 secret words that will give them a number code to ‘unlock’ the exit door.
Your prep: make copies of the story and four puzzle task papers. Certificates are provided to each team that completes the escape.
Engagement with Practicing Skills- Halloween Puzzle Activities
How do you use holiday worksheets?
There are so many ways you can use these puzzles!
- Early finishers (Hand a puzzle to each team that completes the escape room!)
- An emergency sub day during the holiday season
- Morning work
- Center time
- Small groups
This resource has color-by-number, word search puzzles, a tangle maze, and a partner game!
Pssstttt….and it’s already made for you!
How about the best ever Halloween Activity? A STEM Challenge!
The Pumpkin Launcher is one of our very favorite STEM projects. We use little candy pumpkins, and we have tried pom-poms. Pom-poms work, but if you plan to have teams launch to knock down a target, you will need something heavier- like those cute tiny pumpkins!
I promise this one is easy prep! Students need only a few materials, and you are free to substitute with items you already have on hand. This is a one-day STEM Halloween activity and works great in place of a party!

Easy Halloween activities ready to use! And best news ever- students love these. Stay engaged during Trick or treat time- yes, please.
