A few parting thoughts

[[{“value”:”

I am officially two weeks away from catching my flight back to the States!

Every single second of this semester has been such a blessing and so so so much fun. But, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t excited to come home. I think this is the point of the semester where everyone here is getting homesick and is ready to spend the holidays with their families.

For those who don’t know, the French school system works quite differently from the one in the United States. The main difference is that they start classes around mid-September, which then means they end about mid-December.

What this means for us here at IES is that our last day of classes is December 13, which I know is the last day of exams for everyone at Hope. Meanwhile, my exams start on the 16th and technically go through the rest of the week.

I however, have my last exam on the 18th and I scheduled my train ticket to Paris for the afternoon of the 19th. Unfortunately for me, here in France they really love their protests and they especially love them around the holidays. Because of the protests it’s possible that trains will be cancelled on the 21st which is the day my plane to the US takes off. So, a friend and I have decided to go to Paris two days early and stay in a hotel, just to make sure we’re in the city and don’t miss our flights because we’re stuck in Nantes not able to get on a train.

Either way though, I’ve got two weeks left here in Nantes, and while it’s really sad to think about leaving I am ready to be home with my family and have the comforts of home.

Exams are hard all around but they get about 100x harder when they’re in a foreign language and you’ve already written final papers for every class on top of those exams. Again, one of the lovely things the French school system does differently, having both final papers and final exams for pretty much every class.

At the end of the day, I am soaking up every second of my last weeks in France with my friends but I am excited to be back with my people in the States. I have one last blog post up my sleeve after this so much sure to look for that closer to Christmas for a final look at life here in Nantes!

Profite bien bonnes fêtes de fin d’année!!
